College Football In-State Rivarly in Week 1: Colorado vs. Colorado State What better way to start a football season than with a little instate rivalry. That is exactly what is going to take place when the Colorado Buffaloes and the Colorado State Rams square off on Saturday. The game will be played at neither school’s home field, as the two teams signed a 10 year deal to play at Invesco Field in Denver. The Rams upset the Buffaloes in 2009, winning 23-17. Colorado ... | Fantasy football: New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees is a sure-bet for your fantasy team Breaking down the Saints for fantasy football players | Football season begins in earnest LAS VEGAS – Thursday night saw the end of fake football, with all 32 NFL teams wrapping up their exhibition schedule and the kickoff of the college football season. | College football handicapping: Bettors return, with 2010's first picks Each Friday through the end of the college football season, the Reno Gazette-Journal offers an inside look at what the best minds in sports betting are playing ahead of the weekend's action. | World Football: 11 Best Currently Active Managers In football, having good players is not enough to create a winning team: you need a skilled manager to turn those players into a strong collective force. Travis Bradshaw understands adversity and what it takes to overcome the steep odds stacked against Rice on the gridiron. As a former walk-on, the junior free safety worked his way out of serving as only a scout team footnote and into the Owls' starting 11 on defense by the end of the 2008 season. |
Half-time
betting has become increasingly popular as have teasers where the bettor
may move the line in favor of either the favorite or underdog. Normally
6 and 7 point teasers are offered with fixed payouts being offered (see
chart at right).
Futures
betting is also available from the start of the season on who will win
the Conferences and the Super Bowl. These odds are adjusted throughout
the season; for example, the previous Super Bowl winner might start the
season at 3/1 but if it confirms its previous season form and reaches
the Conference final, the odds against it winning the Super Bowl might
then be as short as 4/5. You get the odds in effect at the time you place
the bet.
For
playoff games and the Super Bowl, more exotic wagering opportunities are
available, such as first team to score; first player to score a touchdown;
whether the first score is a touchdown, field goal or other; number of
sacks; and which quarterback will throw the most number of passes. Such
proposition bets, as they are called, are also available on the Sunday
Night and Monday Night games.
