Ohio State football: The odds on the season (The Plain Dealer) We're not encouraging this kind of thing, but these odds from bodoglife.com offer a look at what people are thinking about Ohio State and the college football season. | Horne returns to Football Association (vnunet.com) Gavin Hinks, Accountancy Age , Thursday 21 August 2008 at 14:55:00 Accountancy Age Personality of the Year becomes new power base inside the FA Alex Horne, last year’s winner of the Accountancy Age Personality of the Year Award, has been made chief operating officer of the Football Association assuming many of the responsibilities of... | Nigeria's task in men's football final: Stop genius Messi (Express India) Brazil failed miserably, now it's Nigeria's turn to find a way of keeping Argentina's virtuoso Lionel Messi in check in Saturday's showpiece Beijing Olympics football final at the national stadium. | Springfield family proud to beat long odds with 5 graduates (The Republican) By KAREN LAVARIERE-SANCHEZSPRINGFIELD - In a school district where nearly half of the students entering high school do not graduate and many young black men become involved in drugs and violence, one family is celebrating beating those odds. | Georgia fly the flag for liberty against all odds (Independent) When Georgia run out at the aptly named Liberty Stadium to play Wales tonight it can only be hoped that the Swansea crowd understand the lengths the opponents have undertaken simply to get to their city. A meaningless friendly to most of the football world perhaps; yet rarely will a match have so much meaning to a visiting team. | Bentley loaded with local talent (Boston Globe) Bentley College juniors Luis Cotto of Waltham, who rushed for 843 yards last fall, and Tyler McNamara of Medway, who set school and conference records with 14 field goals in 18 attempts, are among the top returning players for the Falcons football team. |
Half-time
betting has become increasingly popular as have teasers where the bettor
may move the line in favor of either the favorite or underdog. Normally
6 and 7 point teasers are offered with fixed payouts being offered (see
chart at right).
Futures
betting is also available from the start of the season on who will win
the Conferences and the Super Bowl. These odds are adjusted throughout
the season; for example, the previous Super Bowl winner might start the
season at 3/1 but if it confirms its previous season form and reaches
the Conference final, the odds against it winning the Super Bowl might
then be as short as 4/5. You get the odds in effect at the time you place
the bet.
For
playoff games and the Super Bowl, more exotic wagering opportunities are
available, such as first team to score; first player to score a touchdown;
whether the first score is a touchdown, field goal or other; number of
sacks; and which quarterback will throw the most number of passes. Such
proposition bets, as they are called, are also available on the Sunday
Night and Monday Night games.
